Innovative in industrial lighting
IMT is particularly specialised in the provision of solutions for lighting problems, especially those for extreme environments. IMT designs and produces tailor-made lighting systems for (explosion) hazardous processes and locations that are difficult to reach.
The specialists of IMT are able to dramatically extend the lifetime of electronics by preventing the ingress of contaminants and physical effects. Salt, seawater, heat, humidity, UV radiation, temperature fluctuations, fumes, explosions and vibrations are the main causes of failure in standard products, but on IMT products they have have no impact on the performance. This is why the robust lighting of IMT has an unparalleled long lifetime.
So, with IMT lighting you can run your processes safely and continually without fear of interruption and at the same time, having a more friendly impact on the environment.
Cost saving
Lighting costs more than investing in luminaires and light sources. The total cost of purchase, maintenance and use will determine whether or not your investment is cost-effective. IMT will be happy to calculate all costs for you and guarantees a favourable return on investment with the lowest total cost of ownership.
High return on investment
The IQL systems of IMT do not require any (labour-intensive) maintenance. In other words, you prevent disturbance of production processes, traffic flows and so on. Besides, you improve the safety of people, as maintenance is often risky. Detailed inspections are no longer necessary (a visual inspection will suffice according to EN60079-17 and may take place from the ground in most cases). Besides, you may switch off IQL lighting during the day (saving energy), because humidity does not affect the performance.
In short, the purchase costs of a IQL system are outweighed by the massive savings of IQL on inspection, replacement, security, installation, energy, transport, scaffolding, and so on.
Low total cost of ownership
In most cases, IQL lighting has a lower total cost of ownership than traditional lighting, especially where maintenance is expensive and difficult. This is evidenced by the net present value model of IMT (please refer to the table). The application of traditional lighting (fluorescence and high-pressure mercury and in some cases high-pressure sodium) becomes increasingly strained as a result. The use of induction lamps and other systems with a long lifetime (LED) is soaring.

Corus
"The lifetime of our lighting has multiplied"
"Corus provides solutions in steel and aluminium by means of production and research. In IJmuiden we produce plates from liquid steel, amongst other things. The solidification in the cooling segments takes place under extreme circumstances with very high environment temperatures, up to 90O Centigrade, and a humidity rate of even one hundred percent. Apart from this, chemical loads and enormous temperature fluctuations are typical for this production environment. Therefore our equipment and constructions suffer a lot.
In order to guarantee our flow of materials, we try to keep maintenance and stagnation at a minimum. The cooling segments are only accessible for maintenance one day per two months, which is when the lighting must function by all means. This is not only because of the logistics costs, but also for the sake of safety. However, the existing lighting broke down too often, every other month or so, and required too much maintenance. In consultation with our maintenance specialist we have then opted for IQL lighting of IMT. Ever since then, every defective luminaire is replaced by IQL.
Thanks to the luminaires of IMT our situation for service and maintenance has greatly improved. The IQL lighting lasts much longer, now already more than one year, and requires far less maintenance. The lifetime of the luminaires has already doubled now and on some locations even sixfold. We are glad that we have met IMT. They are a dedicated partner and give good advice. They enquire about our situation of their own accord, and are at all times prepared to come and have a look on location. In other words, not only their lighting is perfect, but also their after sales services. This is how IMT contributes to the continuity of our production with their guarantee and the guaranteed performance of their lighting."

IJssel Technologie/Nedmag
"IMT lighting is the perfect standard"
"Nedmag produces semi-finished products for other industries, such as flint for furnaces of steel plants. This production takes place under very extreme circumstances with high temperatures, salt, vibrations, humidity and corrosion. This is why half of the production plant is a zoning area. All equipment in this area must be resistant against such extreme circumstances, which are comparable to potentially explosive atmospheres.
In 2001 Nedmag has outsourced its technical service department to IJssel Technologies. The maintenance of the lighting turned out to be a huge cost item, especially because of the direct costs of maintenance and energy. We are talking many thousands of Euro here on an annual basis. Every three years luminaires had to be replaced because the electronics broke down. This was done with the help of scaffolding and ladders, which was very risky and costly. One could get the urge to postpone the maintenance as long as possible.
In order to reduce the cost of maintenance and energy and to improve the safety, IJssel Technologie searched for other lighting. This is something we do with great care; we never try out just anything. After all, you want to choose a standard, because otjerwise the maintenance department and the purchase price will become the decisive factor. Therefore we searched for a sustainable solution and this is why we contacted IMT. It turned out that their lighting for extreme circumstances stood out head and shoulders above the rest as regards specifications.
Meanwhile sixty luminaires have been replaced, partly at the furnaces and conveyor belts. We are very pleased with the luminaires, the earn-back period is only four years and the safety is guaranteed. Besides, IMT gives a ten-year guarantee and good feedback. IMT is definitely among the top segment of lighting for heavy use. Thanks to IMT, Nedmag saves two thirds on maintenance and one third on energy. This is why we have plans to replace hundreds of other luminaires as well"

IQL lighting in Corus Oxy steel plant IJmuiden (NL)

Corus Steel BV is an integrated steel company that produces steel from iron ore and cole. For the production of steel Corus in IJmuiden has one production facility in use: the Oxy steel plant. The Oxy steel plant melts pig iron and scrap metal into sheets of steel. Within Corus, these sheets of steel undergo further processing. Liquid steel is also supplied to the nearby rolling mill.
In cold stores, the melted steel is rolled and cooled by spraying water.
This results in an air humidity of 100% at a temperature of at least 80o C.
In these rooms, lighting used to be a big problem. Every three weeks, during the maintenance stops, luminaires had to be replaced because they were flooded with water or came off the walls by themselves due to oxidation. The luminaires that were still intact did not burn anymore, because the old lighting system was unable to cope with these extreme circumstances.
It was crystal clear that special luminaires were needed here!
IMT
BV has advised Corus to use the IQL lighting system. The IQL system has
a standard temperature range of -40° C up to +40° C and the luminaire
is completely sealed afgesloten (sealed for life), making sure that no
humidity or dust can penetrate. For specific conditions, IMT can
produce luminaires with different specifications.
Some months ago, Corus has installed these IQL luminaires and they are still performing their duty without any problems.
Corus has indicated that it will increasingly apply IQL systems, also for upcoming projects and special applications.
Littlebrook Power Station

Contribution towards safety
Millions of drivers each year look to their right as they pass over the QE2 Dartford Bridge and see a dazzling array of bright, red lights on the very prominent chimney stack that is part of Littlebrook Power Station.
These obstruction lights provide a hazard warning to air traffic such as passing helicopters and aircraft negotiating their routes to the London City and Heathrow airports. They, as with other sites in the UK and around the world, play a vital part in the safety standards set by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation).
As you can imagine, any maintenance or replacements of lights at such heights requires expertise and exposes personnel who perform the task to serious safety risks. Lights previously installed meant his occurrence happening on a frequent basis.
IMT has developed a medium intensity light based on advanced LED technology that conforms to the ICAO specification in Annex 14, Chapter 6.
Of course this is mandatory in situations such as Littlebrook, but the design also introduces huge safety benefits here and elsewhere as it is maintenance-free and has a life expectancy of 80,000 hours continuous use.
Needless to say, dangerous visits to these "dizzy" heights will now be extremely rare and significantly contribute towards SAFETY. The HSE has endorsed and recommended this type of light to be fitted now and in the future.
ATEX certified lights have been specified by Bechtel for tower installations in the Middle East OGDIII project; and many more end-users are planning to use maintenance-free lighting.

IMT IQL lighting fixtures in Siberia

IMT lighting fixtures have gained worldwide fame as appears from the reaction of a satisfied Moscow customer.
Mr Grigorenko of the Russian company of Tochka Opory sent us the following e-mail message:
"We have twice supplied IMT IQL 85 warning lights to "Norilsky Nikel". Norilsk is a town in Siberia above the polar circle. In winter time temperatures there are as low as − 50° Centigrade. Nevertheless the 35 IQL fixtures of IMT operate there without any problems.
We are very satisfied with these lighting fixtures and are currently working on a project in which fixtures have to be supplied to the Novyhi gas field on the edge of the polar circle. For this project we will most certainly use IMT fixtures again."

IMT IQL High Bay downlights illuminate frozen facility of Nestlé Purina Petfood

More than 16 IQL High Bay downlights illuminate the refrigeration cell of Nestlé Purina Petfood in IJmuiden.
Fore more than 75 years, Nestlé Purina Petfood has been a producer of cat & dog food. The canned food contains fresh meat that is stored in refrigeration cells (−14°).
Mr R. Bergman from Nestlé was introduced to IMT about 3 years ago. Before using IQL downlights to illuminate the refrigeration cell, they had fluorescent luminaires. Not only do fluorescent luminaires have a long start-up time, they also need a lot of maintenance under these low temperatures. On top of this, the heat development was high.
Via his business relations Mr Bergman got in touch with IMT and learned about the key assets of IQL downlights that are extremely suitable for cold stores and frozen food storage facilities.
Since more than 3 years, IQL downlights are in place and to this day they never needed any maintenance.
